Acne products

Managing active #acne involves a combination of #skincare products that target various factors contributing to acne, such as excess oil production, #inflammation, and bacterial growth. Here's a breakdown of types of skincare products (not brand-specific) that can help with active acne. Comment ‘acne’ to find out what we use.

1. Cleansers: Look for gentle, non-comedogenic cleansers designed to remove excess oil and dirt without stripping the skin. Ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help unclog pores and reduce bacterial growth.

2. Chemical exfoliants containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic acid can help remove dead skin cells, reduce clogged pores, and smooth the skin's surface.

3. Derived from vitamin A, retinoids such as retinol, tretinoin, adapalene, and tazarotene help promote cell turnover, prevent clogging of pores, and can reduce the appearance of acne scars.

4. Moisturizers: Even oily and acne-prone skin needs hydration. Opt for oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizers that hydrate without clogging pores.

6. Sunscreens: Sun protection is crucial, especially if you're using products that make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Look for oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreens designed for acne-prone skin.

7. Niacinamide: Also known This form of vitamin B3 helps reduce inflammation, lighten acne scars, and improve skin barrier function.

It's important to introduce new products into your routine gradually and patch test to ensure you don't have an adverse reaction. Additionally, while over-the-counter products can be effective for mild to moderate acne, severe or persistent acne may require the guidance of a skin therapist, who can prescribe stronger treatments or medications.
